Free AI cover letters, written for this specific job
This AI cover letter generator reads the advert and your CV, then writes a letter that answers each requirement with something from your own career. You pick the tone: formal, warm or confident.
We write your cover letter from two sources: the job advert and your CV.
- Answers every requirement
- Tone you choose
- Backed by your career
How the letter gets written.
Upload your CV
Your CV file is enough (PDF, Word or photo). It's where the evidence comes from: roles, projects and numbers you can actually back up.
Paste the job advert
Any text, or a link from a job board. We pull out what the role asks for and who the named contact is.
Pick a tone
Formal, warm or confident — plus the length, which in Germany rarely runs past a single page.
Edit, then export
Every paragraph stays editable in the browser until the letter sounds like you — then you export it as a PDF.
AI cover letters: Resume Copilot, ChatGPT and template generators
There are three common ways to write a cover letter with AI. What separates them is what the text is built from.
- Resume Copilot
It writes from your CV and the actual advert.
The AI pulls the requirements out of the posting and answers each one with a role, project or figure from your CV. A validator checks every statement against your original, and you set the tone with a click.
- Chat assistant such as ChatGPT
It writes from whatever you paste into the chat.
You paste the advert, your CV and instructions, and get a draft back. It's good for trying out phrasings, and how closely the letter fits the role follows your prompt. You then place the finished text in a layout yourself.
- Template generator
It fills a sample letter with your details.
You pick a sample letter and add the company, the role and a few lines about yourself. That gets you a formally correct letter fast, which serves as a frame for many applications; the link to each advert you write in yourself.
What separates a real letter from a filled-in template.
Written against this specific advert
We pull the requirements out of this specific posting and answer them one by one. That's why the letter talks about this role in particular.
Evidence instead of adjectives
Every claim traces back to your CV: roles, projects, numbers. Instead of "highly motivated team player", the letter says which project you ran and what came out of it.
Tone and length in one click
Formal for corporates and public-sector employers, warm for smaller firms, confident for roles with a leadership expectation. Shorten or expand without starting over.
German advert in, German letter out
The output language is detected from the advert and your CV. A German posting gets a German letter, an English one an English letter — useful when you're applying across both in the same week.
Matched to your CV
The letter and the CV are produced together and tell the same story — in the same eleven ATS-friendly layouts, with a preview that matches the exported PDF.
Photo, signature, German norms
Upload and crop an application photo, add a handwritten signature — the conventions German HR departments still expect.
Write a cover letter with AI for free: how to go about it
A strong cover letter answers three questions: why this company, why this role, and why you. Here the CV and the letter come out of the same run, so both draw on the same roles and figures. How the CV side works is on the AI CV builder page.
Read the draft out loud once. Whatever doesn't sound like you, change directly in the text; a personal line about your motivation often carries the whole letter. Germany's Federal Employment Agency gives the same advice: AI makes suggestions, which you check and complete with your own experience.
The letter is one part of the application. AI job application shows how CV, letter and tracking fit together, the German CV format guide covers the CV conventions, and the free CV check shows whether applicant tracking systems read your CV cleanly.
Every claim, backed by your CV.
The letter is built from evidence — projects, figures and roles that are actually in your CV — and job titles and dates stay exactly as you wrote them (titles are translated only when your German CV goes into English); a validator confirms that before you see the text. If the advert asks for something your career hasn't covered yet, the letter names it openly and leans on the strengths you do bring.
Write a cover letter freeCommon questions.
Is it acceptable to write a cover letter with AI?
Yes. There's no general ban, and what gets judged is whether the content fits the role and whether it's true. If an advert explicitly asks you not to use AI, respect that. AI only becomes a problem when it claims things you can't back up, which is why a validator checks every statement against your CV.
Can employers tell a cover letter was written with AI?
Reliably, that's hard: OpenAI itself withdrew its AI-text detector in 2023 because of its low accuracy. What stands out is generic text that never refers to the advert, offers no evidence from the applicant's career and stacks adjectives such as "highly motivated" or "dynamic". A letter that answers each requirement with something from your CV reads differently.
Sie or du — how should I address the reader?
"Sie" is the default in Germany, with "Sehr geehrte Frau …" or "Sehr geehrter Herr …" as the salutation. We use the contact person named in the advert; if none is named, the letter falls back to "Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren". If the advert itself uses "du", you can change the salutation directly in the text before exporting.
How long should a German cover letter be?
One page, never more — around 250 to 400 words across three to five paragraphs is the German norm. Anything longer tends not to get finished. You can adjust the length with a click rather than rewriting the letter.
What happens to my CV and the job advert?
Both stay in the EU and Switzerland: storage in Zurich, Switzerland (EU adequacy decision), AI processing on EU infrastructure. Both are used for your application and nothing else. You can delete your account and every document from settings at any time.
Is the cover letter generator free?
Your first three applications are free, and the first one needs no account and no card. You see and edit the finished letter before anything is asked of you — sign-up is only for exporting and saving. After that you buy credit packs: no subscription, and credits don't expire.
How is this different from ChatGPT?
ChatGPT writes from whatever you put into the chat and returns a draft that you then check and format yourself. Resume Copilot reads the CV and the advert itself, answers the requirements one by one, checks every statement against your original and sets the letter in the same layout as your CV.
Can I change the letter afterwards?
Yes. Every paragraph stays editable in the browser, and you can reset tone and length with a click without starting over. Nothing is exported until you're done.
Can I write a cover letter without uploading a CV?
The CV is where the evidence comes from, so you upload it first; a PDF, Word file or photo is enough. That's what lets the letter answer the advert with your real roles, projects and figures.
Is a new cover letter written for every application?
Yes. Each job ad gets its own letter, because each ad asks for something different. Your CV stays the shared source, so for the next application you only paste the new advert.
Stop rewriting the first paragraph five times.
Upload your CV, paste the advert, and about a minute later there's a letter on screen you can keep editing sentence by sentence until it sounds like you.
